What Drain Cleaning Actually Fixes
Drain cleaning does one thing well: it gets the blockage out of the pipe so water can move the way it should again.
That means the drains you touch every day. Kitchen sinks filmed with grease and ground-up food. Bathroom sinks and tub drains matted with hair and soap. Basement floor drains and laundry standpipes — and in Roanoke, where so many older houses have finished or half-finished basements, those lower-level drains work harder than most. Each of these is a fixture-level problem: the plug sits in that drain or the short branch behind it, and once it's out, the fixture behaves again.
What a clearing can't fix is a pipe that's failing. When a drain you just had cleared starts slowing again within weeks, or when flushing the upstairs toilet makes the basement shower gurgle, you're probably looking past the fixture and into the main line. A straight answer matters more than a repeat visit here — that's when a camera look at the lateral makes sense, which is sewer line repair territory, not another standard cleaning.
